SC YMCA Public Policy Team Visits Members of Congress During National Advocacy Days

image001In late February, 10 YMCA representatives traveled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.  The team was comprised of CEOs, community volunteers, Youth in Government students and Alliance staff.  The SC delegation joined Y leaders from all across the nation for the Y’s largest annual advocacy event, learned about the current environment on Capitol Hill and the Y’s National Legislative Agenda:

  • Invest in the nation’s youth by supporting early learning, afterschool and summer learning
  • Control chronic disease and health care spending by preventing obesity, diabetes and heart disease
  • Preserve the charitable contribution tax deduction

We were able to successfully meet with all SC members of Congress and/or their staff:

  • U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham
  • U.S. Senator Tim Scott
  • U.S. Representative Mark Sanford
  • U.S. Representative Joe Wilson
  • U.S. Representative Jeff Duncan
  • U.S. Representative Trey Gowdy
